Neve Campbell discusses her return as Sidney Prescott in Scream 5

October 15, 2020 by Liam Waddington

With the upcoming fifth instalment in the Scream franchise currently in production, Neve Campbell, who is once again set to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott, has discussed her return to the long-running horror series.

During an interview on The Talk, Campbell spoke about her return to Scream without the late director Wes Craven while also revealing her excitement to work with Courteney Cox and David Arquette again – who will be reprising their roles as Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley respectively.

“Oh you guys, I’m 47 and I’m going to be covered in blood,” Campbell said. “I’m excited to get back to it. I’m excited to see Courteney (Cox) and David (Arquette). I’m excited to see this young new cast. I’m excited to work with these new directors. I had been apprehensive because our incredible director, Wes Craven, passed away and I wasn’t sure about doing a film without him. But the new directors came to me with this beautiful letter, saying they’ve become directors and love film because of these films and because of Wes. And they really want to be true to his story and his journey with these films. So, I was really happy to hear that.”

Campbell comments regarding the direction that Scream 5 directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will be taking the franchise resembles what franchise newcomer Jenna Ortega has previously said about how it will “fit perfectly” into the franchise created by Craven.

Scream 5 features is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S) from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock). The cast includes the returning Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, David Arquette as Dewey Riley, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and Marley Shelton as Deputy Judy Hicks alongside franchise newcomers Jenna Ortega (You, Jane the Virgin), Melissa Barrera (In the Heights), Jack Quaid (The Boys), Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why), Mason Gooding (Love, Victor), Mikey Madison (Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood), Kyle Gallner (Ghosts of War), Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers), and newcomer Sonia Ammar.
