Anne Hathaway on the advice she would give to Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, says she’s the “perfect choice” for role

November 3, 2020 by Liam Waddington

With a new iteration of Catwoman set to appear in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, Anne Hathaway, who previously portrayed Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, has discussed the casting of Zoe Kravitz as the iconic DC character.

In an interview with Collider, Hathaway was initially asked if she had any advice for Zoe Kravitz, to which he responded with:

“You saw the picture of her coming down those stairs, right? Yeah, she doesn’t need my advice.”

However, Hathaway did continue to explain why Kravitz shouldn’t listen to anybody and give her own interpretation of the character like previous actors in the role of The Joker have done before stating that she thinks the actor is the “perfect choice” for the role.

“If I had any advice it would be literally don’t listen to anybody because I think the only way to play that role is to give your version of it. All of us had different directors and all of our interpretations were specific to the films that they were in, kind of like my Grand High Witch is specific to Bob Zemeckis and Angelica Huston’s is specific to Nicolas Roeg’s, and that’s great! And all the Jokers were specific to each director they have, and so I don’t think you can get too bogged down with the comparison. And especially when you’re not the one doing it because your job is to give yours. And I’m so excited to see what she does with it. I thought she was a perfect choice.”

There have already been four iterations of the character in recent years including Michelle Pfeiffer in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, Halle Berry in 2004’s Catwoman, Anne Hathaway, and Camren Bicondova in Gotham so it will be exciting to see what Zoe Kravitz will bring to her character in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
