Ben Wheatley-directed horror In the Earth gets first image and plot details

November 8, 2020 by Gary Collinson

In the run up to the release of Rebecca on Netflix, filmmaker Ben Wheatley announced that he’d been working on a low budget pandemic horror throughout lockdown, and now we have the first image (above) and details on the film.

Titled In the Earth, the film features a cast that includes Joel Fry (Yesterday), Ellora Torchia (Midsommar), Hayley Squires (I, Daniel Blake), and Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen). As per Deadline, the logline for the film reads:

As the world searches for a cure to a disastrous virus, a scientist and park scout venture deep in the forest for a routine equipment run. Through the night, their journey becomes a terrifying voyage through the heart of darkness, the forest coming to life around them.

Neon has financed and produced In the Earth, and will distribute the film in North America next year. Wheatley meanwhile has recently signed on to direct the shark sequel The Meg 2, and is also attached to helm Tomb Raider 2, although that project is now currently on hold due to the global health crisis.
