Margot Robbie promises “lots of girl power” in her Pirates of the Caribbean movie

December 1, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Having decided to part ways with Johnny Depp and Captain Jack Sparrow and take the franchise in a different direction, it was announced this past June that Birds of Prey star Margot Robbie is set to become the new face of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and now the actress has suggested we can expect plenty of “girl power” in the next instalment of Disney’s swashbuckling film series.

“Lots of girl power,” said Robbie when asked by Collider what the new movie will bring to the blockbuster franchise. “It’s too early to talk about it. I love [screenwriter Christina Hodson], obviously. I’m not a producer on Pirates, so I’ll sit back and kind of wait for the process. We’re really, really excited at the prospect of adding obviously a very key female element to that world.”

As Robbie states, the new Pirates movie will reunite her with Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson, while Jerry Bruckheimer is on board to produce. In addition to this film, Disney and Bruckheimer are also thought to be developing a reboot of the main series under Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and regular series writer Ted Elliott.
