Critics Choice Association to honor Delroy Lindo, Tessa Thompson and more at Celebration of Black Cinema

December 8, 2020 by EJ Moreno

For the third year, the Critics Choice Association will honor Black artists’ amazing work within the film and television industry. Media personality and Harlem icon Bevy Smith will host the virtual event this upcoming February.

Delroy Lindo will receive The Career Achievement Award, recognizing his work on the big screen, small screen, and stage. John Legend & Mike Jackson will receive The Producers Award, Tessa Thompson will receive The Actors Award, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will receive The Breakthrough Award, and Andra Day will be recognized with the Special Honoree Award for her work in The United States vs. Billie Holiday.

Also, the Celebration of Black Cinema will shine a spotlight on the upcoming film, One Night in Miami…, by awarding Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge, and Leslie Odom, Jr., with The Ensemble Award.

“The Critics Choice Association is thrilled to have the opportunity to recognize the work of these extraordinary artists in a year where the intersection of art and activism has never been more necessary,” said Executive Producer Shawn Edwards. “Each of our honorees personifies the greatness of Black cinema in 2020, and we are looking forward to a truly remarkable evening celebrating these achievements!”

The Celebration of Black Cinema will take place on February 2nd, 2021.
