Thor: Love and Thunder to begin filming this week, Karen Gillan confirms Nebula appearance

January 20, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

We knew that there were rumblings from the God of Thunder down-under when news of Matt Damon flying into Australia for a reported role in the fourth Asgardian adventure broke. Now it appears we have been given a definitive start date for filming on Thor: Love and Thunder thanks to Chris Hemsworth’s Instagram post.

With the majority of the world on pandemic pause, it seems that the MCU can take advantage of the relative success that Australia have had in dealing with the Covid-crisis and start filming on Thor‘s fourth outing this very week! Hemsworth, pictured with his family looking a far-cry from the slovenly superhero we saw during Avengers: Endgame, announced that he would be “starting on #thorloveandthunder this week”.

Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy star Karen Gillan has confirmed that she will be returning to the role of Nebula for an appearance in Love and Thunder alongside the previously announced Chris Pratt. With Star-Lord and Nebula both on board, it seems a pretty safe bet that they won’t be the only Guardians in the film as we pick up from the end of Avengers: Endgame.

Directed by Thor: Ragnarok helmer Taika Waititi, who also reprises his on-screen role as Korg, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor), alongside the returning Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Karen Gillan (Nebula) and Christian Bale (Ford v Ferrari) as Gorr the God Butcher. The film is set for a May 6th, 2022 release.
