Killing Eve ending with Season 4, but potential spin-offs are in development

March 16, 2021 by Ricky Church

The spy thriller series Killing Eve is coming to an end with its fourth season, but fans hoping for more of the series may get their wish as BBC America is said to be developing several potential spin-offs once the series concludes.

Killing Eve stars Sandra Oh as MI6 agent Eve Polastri and Jodie Comer as the deadly assassin Villanelle in a cat-and-mouse game across Europe. The two become obsessed with each other and form and attachment during their hunt for the other. It is based on the novel series by Luke Jennigs with the show created by Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

The series will conclude with an 8-episode final season that will begin production in the UK in the early summer for a 2022 premiere. It will continue its tradition of having a new female showrunner for the season with Laura Neal serving as head writer and executive producer. Meanwhile, AMC Network, BBC America and Sid Gentle Films are in discussion for a number of potential spin-offs.

“Killing Eve exploded in popular culture and attracted a dedicated and committed fan base from its very first episode. Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s brilliant adaptation of the source material, the unforgettable characters given life by Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, and the entire cast, along with our partners at Sid Gentle Films, have delivered a one-of-a-kind roller-coaster ride that has taken our breath away,” said Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks. “We could not be more thankful for the extraordinary talents and efforts of everyone involved, particularly Sandra and Jodie, who made Killing Eve much more than a television show. We look forward to what is sure to be an unforgettable final season and to exploring potential extensions of this compelling universe.”

“Killing Eve has been one of my greatest experiences and I look forward to diving back into Eve’s remarkable mind soon,” said Sandra Oh. “I’m so grateful for all cast and crew who have brought our story to life and to the fans who have joined us and will be back for our exciting and unpredictable fourth and final season.”

“Killing Eve has been the most extraordinary journey and one that I will be forever grateful for,” said Jodie Comer. “Thank you to all the fans who’ve supported us throughout and come along for the ride. Although all good things come to an end, it’s not over yet. We aim to make this one to remember!”

Killing Eve continues the story of two women with brutal pasts, addicted to each other but now trying desperately to live their lives without their drug of choice. For Villanelle (Comer), the assassin without a job, Eve (Oh) is dead. For Eve, the ex-MI6 operative hiding in plain sight, Villanelle will never find her. All seems fine until a shocking and personal death sets them on a collision course yet again. The journey back to each other will cost both of them friends, family, and allegiances…and perhaps a share of their souls.

The third season of Killing Eve stars the returning Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, Diona Shaw, Kim Bodnia and Owen McDonnell alongside new cast additions Harriet Walter (Succession), Danny Sapani (Harlots), Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones), Camille Cottin (Call My Agent), Steve Pemberton (Inside No. 9), Raj Bajaj (A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding), Turlough Convery (Ready Player One), Pedja Bjelac (Harry Potter) and Evgenia Dodina (One Week and a Day).
