Jason Momoa co-wrote Aquaman 2 story treatment, confirms filming starts in July

May 21, 2021 by Liam Waddington

With a sequel to director James Wan’s Aquaman currently in pre-production at DC and Warner Bros., star Jason Momoa has revealed that he co-wrote the story treatment for Aquaman 2 while also confirming that filming will start this July.

“After we ended the first one I went in with my writing partner and we dreamed up the second one and we went in and pitched the idea,” Momoa said during an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show. “The best thing I can give you is that I love it so much that I participated in the writing of it. And so, we did the first treatment and then James and our original writer [David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick] finished it off. And all of our hearts are in it. Instead of just like getting a script and doing that, you are 100% being encouraged by your director and co-writers. So that’s exciting for me and I’m excited to go over there. I leave in July and we start filming.”

While plot details are currently being kept under wraps, we do know the film will once again be directed by Wan and written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick with Momoa once again reprising his role as Arthur Curry/Aquaman alongside Amber Heard as Mera and newcomer Pilou Asbaek (Game of Thrones) in an undisclosed role.

Aquaman 2 is currently scheduled for a December 16th, 2022 release date.
