Doctor Who gets a series 13 trailer and single serialised storyline

July 25, 2021 by Gary Collinson

As part of the final day of Comic-Con@Home, Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall, Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker and Companions Mandip Gill and John Bishop have taken part in a virtual panel for the iconic British sci-fi show, during which they shared a teaser trailer and first details for the upcoming thirteenth series..

In a first for Doctor Who, the new series will feature a single serialised storyline across a shortened six -episode run, both stemming from production challenges due to the pandemic, as Chibnall explained:

“Before we started making it, there were times when we thought we were going to be unable to do the show under Covid conditions this year… there were two ways you could go. You could go ‘let’s do lots of tiny little episodes in one room, with no monsters,’ or we could throw down the gauntlet and do the biggest story we’ve ever done. We’re going to go to all kinds of different places, we’re going to have all kinds of characters and monsters, and it’s all going to be part of a bigger whole. It’s definitely the most ambitious thing we’ve done since we’ve been on the series.”

Series 13 of Doctor Who remains in production, although it is expected to premiere before the end of the year.
