Mike Flanagan and Netflix adapting hit horror comic Something is Killing the Children

July 13, 2021 by Gary Collinson

The Haunting of Hill House director Mike Flanagan and executive producer Trevor Macy are set to reteam with Netflix for a TV adaptation of James Tynion IV and Werther Dell-Edera’s horror comic series Something is Killing the Children.

Published by Boom! Studios and launching in 2019, Something is Killing the Children has proven to be a smash hit success, winning Eisner, Harvey and Ringo Awards and selling over 1.2 million copies to date. Here’s the official series synopsis:

“When the children of Archer’s Peak begin to go missing, everything seems hopeless. Most children never return, but the ones that do have terrible stories—impossible stories of terrifying creatures that live in the shadows. Their only hope of finding and eliminating the threat is the arrival of a mysterious stranger, one who believes the children and claims to see what they can see. Her name is Erica Slaughter. She kills monsters. That is all she does, and she bears the cost because it MUST be done.”

The new projects extends Flanagan and Macy’s work with Netflix, where through their Intrepid Pictures banner they have produced the feature films Hush and Gerald’s Game, The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, and the upcoming Midnight Mass and The Midnight Club. Should it move forward, Macy is set to serve as showrunner.
