Will Smith producing hip-hop musical movie Summertime

Deadline is reporting that Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios is teaming with Davis Entertainment to produce a hip-hop musical entitled Summertime, which is inspired by the Grammy-winning 1991 single by DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince.

Summertime will mark the directorial debut of Peter Saji, writer and executive producer on Black-ish (including two of its musical episodes), who is also writing the script. Plot details are being kept under wraps.

The Fresh Prince himself Will Smith will produce the movie through his Westbrook Studios banner alongside John Davis, John Fox and Jeremy Stein for Davis Entertainment, and Giselle Johnson of Sony’s Screen Gems.
