Kit Harington on Dane Whitman’s MCU future post-Eternals

November 10, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Spoilers for Marvel’s Eternals follow. You have been warned…

Former Game of Thrones star Kit Harington made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Eternals this month, taking on the role of Dane Whitman – a character whom Marvel Comics fans will know goes on to become the Black Knight, a sword-wielding superhero and frequent member of the Avengers.

As we saw in the post-credits scene of Chloe Zhao’s film, Eternals laid the groundwork for this journey as Dane discovered an old chest housing the mystical Ebony Blade – the cursed sword that will grant him the powers of the Black Knight. However, things then took a somewhat unexpected turn with a voice cameo from Mahershala Ali, making his own MCU debut as Blade and questioning whether Dane believes he’s ready to make the next step.

Speaking to Fandom about the post-credits scene and Dane Whitman’s MCU future, including the possibility of a team-up with Ali’s Daywalker, Harington said:

“It’s really cool. [Chloé] texted me about [the Blade voice cameo] a couple of weeks ago and it sort of blew my mind. I didn’t know that that would be the case, so it’s pretty exciting for me. I came into this knowing that there would be, hopefully, some cool possibilities for the future and also looking at the character and responding to the character as I saw it on every level, in every platform. So yeah, this is a great intro into the Marvel world and I’m just very happy that this movie is the one that I got to do it in.”
