Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness tops Eternals as the MCU’s biggest Disney+ streaming launch

July 1, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Marvel’s latest foray into television Ms. Marvel might not be pulling up any trees ratings-wise for Disney+, but Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has shrugged aside any notion of MCU fatigue to deliver the biggest viewing figures of the studio’s Phase Four movies to date.

As reported by Samba TV, the Sam Raimi-directed sequel was viewed by 2.1 million households in its first 5 days of streaming on Disney+, compared to 2 million households for Eternals, 1.7 million households for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and 1.1 million for Black Widow.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hit Disney+ last Wednesday, just 47 days after its theatrical premiere on a box office run that has seen the sequel amass over $950 million worldwide, second only to Top Gun: Maverick in terms of the year’s biggest earners.

In Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo), Michael Stuhlbarg (Nicodemus West) and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) as well as MCU newcomer Xochitl Gomez (The Baby-Sitters Club) as America Chavez.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is streaming now on Disney+.
