Dark and 1899 duo to adapt Something is Killing the Children for Netflix

February 23, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Despite having their well-received series 1899 cancelled after just one season, Dark creators Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese are moving onto their next collaboration with Netflix with the news that the duo are to adapt comic-series Something is Killing the Children.

Friese and Odar will join up with comic creators Boom! Studios!, who also have a deal with Netflix, to adapt Something is Killing the Children, which is co-created by DC Comics writer James Tynion (Batman) and Werther Dell’Edera.

Described as one of the most successful English-language comic series of recent times, selling more than two million copies worldwide and winning multiple Eisner Awards, Something is Killing the Children sounds perfectly suited to the sensibilities displayed by Friese and Odar, as it tells the story of monsters terrifying a small-town community.

The official synopsis reads  “When the children of Archer’s Peak begin to go missing, everything seems hopeless. Most children never return, but the ones that do have terrible stories—impossible stories of terrifying creatures that live in the shadows. Their only hope of finding and eliminating the threat is the arrival of a mysterious stranger, one who believes the children and claims to see what they can see. Her name is Erica Slaughter. She kills monsters.”

1899 was the first project to be made following Friese and Odar’s exclusive Netflix deal, which they secured following the success of their superb science-fiction series Dark.
