The Marsh King’s Daughter shifts away from Taylor Swift concert movie

September 13, 2023 by Ricky Church

The Exorcist: Believer isn’t the only film afraid of Taylor Swift’s upcoming Eras concert movie. Deadline reports the Daisy Ridley-led thriller The Marsh King’s Daughter is yet another October release moving out of the way of the pop icon’s concert and has now secured a November 3rd release date.

Directed by Neil Burger (Limitless), The Marsh King’s Daughter is based on Karen Dionne’s novel which sees Helena, played by Ridley, confronting her past after her father, a criminal known as The Marsh King after he abducted Helena’s mother and held them both in the wildness for years, has escaped from prison. Fearful that her father will try to recapture her as well as her own family, she heads back into the woods to capture her father using everything he taught her.

Starring alongside Ridley is Ben Mendelsohn (Marvel’s Secret Invasion) as Jacob Holbrook, the infamous Marsh King and Helena’s father, with Brooklynn Prince (Cocaine Bear), Garrett Hedlund (TRON: Legacy), Caren Pistorius (Unhinged), Joey Carson (House of Chains) and Gil Birmingham (Yellowstone).

The Marsh King’s Daughter is produced by Lionsgate, STX and Roadside Attractions. Their hope is the move a full month later will be enough breathing room for the excitement of the Taylor Swift concert movie to die down. The film now opens opposite Meg Ryan’s What Happens Later on November 3rd.

The Marsh King’s Daughter, a woman with a secret past will venture into the wilderness she left behind to confront the most dangerous man she’s ever met: her father. In the film, Helena’s (Daisy Ridley) seemingly ordinary life hides a dark and dangerous truth: her estranged father is the infamous Marsh King (Ben Mendelsohn), the man who kept her and her mother captive in the wilderness for years. When her father escapes from prison, Helena will need to confront her past. Knowing that he will hunt for her and her family, Helena must find the strength to face her demons and outmaneuver the man who taught her everything she knows about surviving in the wild.

The Marsh King’s Daughter arrives in cinemas on November 3rd.
