As a longtime Evil Dead fan, it’s lovely to be in an era where we aren’t waiting decades for projects.
From 2013’s remake to the cult revision series Ash Vs. Evil Dead, and to last year’s Evil Dead Rise, we’re in a golden age of Deadites. Things aren’t slowing down either, as Deadline reports producer Sam Raimi has tapped a new director for a spin-off.
French filmmaker Sebastien Vanicek has been tapped to co-write and direct a new installment of the Evil Dead franchise. Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures are behind the project.
Vanicek had his feature directorial debut last year with Infested (Vermines), a horror movie that had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The film would later win Best Picture and Best Director in its North American premiere at Fantastic Fest.
It seems like Sam Raimi is looking to pass on the legacy of horror through his iconic Evil Dead saga. After creating the franchise in 1981, he’s now tapped a new gen of filmmakers to take over what he started. He’s brought Fede Alverez, Lee Cronin, and now Sebastien Vanicek to the mainstream with his bloody Deadite-filled romps.
