Matthew Vaughn interested in bringing Jonathan Ross’ The Golden Age to the screen

February 17, 2011 by admin

Jonathan Ross’ comic book The Golden Age could soon be coming to the big screen courtesy of Matthew Vaughn, director of Kick-Ass, Layer Cake, Stardust and the upcoming X-Men: First Class.

Vaughn has said that a major Hollywood studio is ready to back the picture and he has mentioned Ross’ wife Jane Goldman (screenwriter for Kick-Ass, Stardust and First Class, amongst others) in connection with scripting duties, but Goldman may miss out due to scheduling conflicts. As of yet, details are up in the air and Vaughn has also said that he may produce instead of direct.

With The Golden Age centering on octogenarian superheroes being brought out of retirement, Vaughn has stated that he sees the project as perfect for some older stars to immerse themselves in, with Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty mentioned by the writer/director/producer.

Ross is an avid comic book fan and already has one title under his belt as a writer, with the four issue miniseries Turf – a tale of vampires and gangsters set in prohibition-era New York, which was released last year.
