Ted Melfi and Jonathan Levine lead Spider-Man director shortlist

June 2, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Over the weekend it was reported that five young actors had tested for the role of Peter Parker in Sony and Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot, and now it seems the two studios have whittled down their director shortlist to four possibilities.

According to Deadline, the candidates to helm the solo movie have been whittled down to Ted Melfi (St Vincent) and Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies), who are said to be the favourites, while John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein (Vacation) remain on the radar. Meanwhile, Jon Watts has also emerged as a potential candidate after impressing with his feature debut Cop Car.

Spider-Man is set for release in July 2017, with Asa Butterfield (Ender’s Game), Tom Holland (The Impossible), Judah Lewis (Demolition), Matthew Lintz (Pixels), Charlie Plummer (Boardwalk Empire) and Charlie Rowe (Red Band Society) all in contention for the role of the web-slinger.
