Wonder Woman 2 director Patty Jenkins confirms 80s setting

April 25, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman 2, has confirmed that the film will be set in the 1980s.

With Wonder Woman being set during the chaotic period of WWI, fans have been wondering just when will the much-anticipated sequel be set. Well, considering the 1980s has become such a popular decade for recent films and TV shows to set their stories in, capitalising on a lot of current nostalgia for the period, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised to learn that the 80s have now been confirmed for Wonder Woman 2.

Patty Jenkins, the director of both the sequel and the original movie, confirmed the news at a recent Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon.

“[Wonder Woman is an] optimistic and positive character,” she said (via ComicBook.com) during the presentation’s sizzle reel. “This film set in the 80’s, she has to deal with the temptation of our world, and face extraordinary odds.”

Jenkins also mentioned that this time period will allow audiences to see Diana at a different point in her superhero career compared to her past appearances in the DCEU: “She is now at her full powers. We’re raising the bar.”
