Atrium TV announces new dramas from Michael Douglas, Ava DuVernay and more

May 23, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Atrium TV has announced four new high-end dramas in development from Michael Douglas, Ava DuVernay, The Wire creator David Simon and Hartswood Films, the company behind Sherlock.

First up is the Michael Douglas-produced Silo, a violent drama “which takes place in future San Francisco which – because of diminished resources and over population – has become one of the many global cities to have created silos – ultimate gated communities of people gathered behind walls or natural barriers.”

The Last Amazon from executive producer Ava DuVernay and Gaumont (Narcos) is described as “a character-driven epic historical series” and “will focus on the great Amazon Queens such as Antiope and Hippolyta, portraying their loves and major battles, notably, their campaign against the Ancient Greeks.”

David Simon’s A Dry Run: The Lincolns In Spain is set during the Spanish Civil War and revolves around who went to fight fascism in Spain in the years prior to World War II, including America’s Abraham Lincoln Battalion. Legendary writers George Orwell and Ernest Hemingway will feature as characters in the six-part miniseries.

And finally, Hartswood Films’ Doctor Zhivago is an eight-part adaptation of Boris Pasternak’s classic novel, which has been penned by Michael First (Vikings) and aims to deliver a “sweeping political drama and romance for a contemporary audience.”

In addition to the above, Atrium is gearing up to go into production on its first two dramas, the moon-landing project One Giant Leap and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame adaptation Quasimodo.
