Paul Bettany reveals how he asked for a role in Solo: A Star Wars Story

May 24, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Paul Bettany has revealed the text he sent to Ron Howard that got him a role on Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Bettany was a late addition to the cast of the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story, coming on board as the film’s villain when Ron Howard took over directing duties on the movie.

The British actor is a long time Star Wars fan and when he heard that Howard was directing the film he knew he had to be a part of proceedings. Bettany, therefore, decided to fire Howard a quick text in order to get the role of Dryden Vos.

Bettany has now revealed to Uproxx just what he sent to Howard that ended up landing him the role on Solo. He sent Howard a message late at night that said: “Hey, Ron, have you ever spent long winter evenings like I have wondering why I’m not in the Star Wars franchise?”

Howard then replied with just the answer that Bettany was hoping for, saying: “LOL. Let me get back to you.”

Of course, it would all work out for the actor, his forwardness paid off and secured him a big role in a franchise he’s always wanted to be a part of. Fans will now get to see just what Howard and Bettany got up to on set when Solo arrives in cinemas this week.
