Sony adds Silk to its Spider-Man spinoff slate

June 22, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With Venom set for release in a few short months, Sony Pictures has announced a new project for its planned slate of Spider-Man spinoff movies, with producer Amy Pascal in early development on a Silk movie.

Silk – a.k.a. the Korean-American Cindy Moon – was created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos and made her debut in The Amazing Spider-Man comic book series in 2014. A classmate of Peter Parker, Cindy was bitten by the same radioactive spider that turned Peter into Spider-Man and develops powers similar to that of the wall-crawler.

The character has previously appeared on the big screen, with Tiffany Espensen briefly portraying Cindy as a classmate of Peter’s in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War.

It’s unclear whether Espensen is in contention for the role in the Sony movie, although it may well be likely given that Pascal has previously tried to convince us (and herself?) that Venom exists in the same universe as Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

In addition to Venom and Silk, Sony also has the Silver Sable and Black Cat movie Silver & Black in development (although it was recently pulled from its planned February 8th 2019 release date) as well as Nightwatch and Morbius, the Living Vampire films.
