Kevin Feige teases the possibilities for Marvel’s The Eternals

July 2, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in April, Marvel confirmed that development is underway on a feature film adaptation of Jack Kirby’s The Eternals, with the studio tapping up and coming screenwriters Matthew Firpo and Ryan Firpo to pen the script.

For those unfamiliar with The Eternals, it centres on the titular race, an evolutionary offshoot of humanity created millions of years ago by the cosmic beings the Celestials, who serve as the defenders of Earth against their evil counterparts the Deviants.

Speaking to Screen Rant during the press junket for Ant-Man and the Wasp, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige was quizzed about their plans for Eternals, with Feige teasing that the project affords them the opportunity to delve into the history and mythology of the MCU.

“One of the cool things about that property and what Jack Kirby did with it and what’s been done with it in recent years is it does tie into they’re called Eternals, they’ve been around for a long time. You know? There’s this notion of all of these myths and legends that we know from ancient times, were they inspired by the Eternals? Were they Eternals? It’s a very … you know, it’s an ancient aliens kind of sci-fi trope that we think would be fun to explore someday.”

If rumours are to be believed, Marvel is eyeing The Eternals as a new franchise, filling the cosmic void post-Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
