Game of Thrones prequel spinoff to shoot in October

July 13, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Well, it seems HBO isn’t hanging around with its first Game of Thrones spinoff, as Deadline is reporting that filming will get underway in October at The Paint Hall in Belfast’s Titanic Quarters – home to the now wrapped main series.

The spinoff, which was announced in June, has been created by A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin and screenwriter Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Secret Service).

Going by the working title The Long Night, the potential series will take place thousands of years prior to Game of Thrones, and will chronicle “the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.”

HBO has been working on five spinoffs to its acclaimed epic fantasy drama, although George R.R. Martin revealed last month that one project is no longer in development.

There’s been no word as to when we might expect to see the first spinoff, although presumably HBO would be looking for 2020 to fill the hole in its schedule after Game of Thrones airs its eighth and final season in 2019.
