Nicolas Cage on finally playing Superman in Teen Titans Go! to the Movies

July 31, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Some twenty years after he was first attached to the role in Tim Burton’s ultimately-abandoned Superman Lives, Nicolas Cage finally got to portray the Man of Steel this month, albeit in voice form, with Cage portraying the Last Son of Krypton in Warner Bros.’ animated feature Teen Titans Go! to the Movies.

Speaking to USA Today to coincide with the film’s release, Cage has shared his reaction to realising his long-held ambition of portraying Superman, stating that:

“It wasn’t really the version that Tim Burton and I had in mind, but it was just fun. It was terrific. It was just nice to be involved in something my kid loves and we got to do it together.”

As Cage notes, his son – who is actually named Kal-El Cage after the Man of Steel – also featured in Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, lending his voice to the young Bruce Wayne.

It seems to the Teens that all the major superheroes out there are starring in their own movies—everyone but the Teen Titans, that is! But de facto leader Robin is determined to remedy the situation, and be seen as a star instead of a sidekick. If only they could get the hottest Hollywood film director to notice them. With a few madcap ideas and a song in their heart, the Teen Titans head to Tinsel Town, certain to pull off their dream. But when the group is radically misdirected by a seriously Super-Villain and his maniacal plan to take over the Earth, things really go awry. The team finds their friendship and their fighting spirit failing, putting the very fate of the Teen Titans themselves on the line!
