The Transformers: The Movie returning to theaters for one-night event in September

August 1, 2018 by Ricky Church

Transformers fans, get ready for the franchise’s first feature film to return to theatres. The 1986 animated film The Transformers: The Movie will be making its way to select cinemas for a special one-night only event on Thursday, September 27. The film has been remastered and restored from the original elements and transferred for an HD presentation.

This special event is a collaboration between Fathom Events, Hasbro Studios and Shout! Factory, and it will also provide moviegoers with a sneak peek behind the making of the Bumblebee feature film, and a brand-new interview with singer-songwriter Stan Bush including recent performances of the theme songs “The Touch” and “Dare.” Moviegoers will be able to enjoy the film in approximately 500 select U.S. movie theatres. A complete list of theater locations will be available at Fathomevents.com.

The Transformers: The Movie premiered between seasons two and three of the original Transformers cartoon series that premiered in 1984. It is one of the most popular pieces of Transformers media in the whole franchise and is notable for the introduction of several elements that have often been repeated throughout the many iterations, such as the presence of Unicron, the Matrix of Leadership and, most famously, the death of Optimus Prime. As well as featuring voices from the series, namely Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, the film also starred several well-known actors like Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club) as Hot Rod, Leonard Nimoy (Star Trek) as Galvatron, Robert Stack (The Untouchables), Eric Idle (Monty Python) and legendary actor and director Orson Welles in his final performance as Unicron.

Tickets for the event will go on sale August 3rd.

The Autobots, led by the heroic Optimus Prime, prepare to make a daring attempt to retake their planet from the evil forces of Megatron and the Decepticons. Unknown to both sides, a menacing force is heading their way – UNICRON. The only hope of stopping Unicron lies within the Matrix of Leadership and the Autobot who can rise up and use its power to light their darkest hour. Will the Autobots be able to save their native planet from destruction or will the Decepticons reign supreme?
