Ruby Rose cast as Batwoman in the Arrowverse, Batman will not appear

August 7, 2018 by Gary Collinson

The CW has found its Batwoman, with Ruby Rose (Orange Is the New Black, The Meg) signing on to play Kate Kane for the annual Arrowverse crossover between Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, as well as a pilot for a separate Batwoman TV series.

The official logline for the potential Batwoman series reads:

“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

The Batwoman pilot, from Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries), was first announced in July, and is being eyed for a 2019 premiere should it make it to series.

Meanwhile, although Gotham City is being introduced to the Arrowverse with the arrival of Rose’s Batwoman, network president Mark Pedowitz has ruled out the possibility of a cameo from the Dark Knight, stating at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that “There’s no plan at this time to have Batman appear.”

What do you make of Ruby Rose’s casting as Batwoman? Are you looking forward to seeing the character debut in the Arrowverse? And do you think she’ll make it to the end of the crossover without the writers having her romantically involved with Sara Lance? Let us know in the comments below…
