Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders officially join Spider-Man: Far From Home

August 8, 2018 by Ricky Church

Marvel fans will see some more familiar faces in Spider-Man: Far From Home as Vulture has confirmed last week’s rumour that Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders will be reprising their roles as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury and Maria Hill respectively.

Jackson and Smulders were last seen as Fury and Hill in the post-credits scene for Avengers: Infinity War where they were casualties of Thanos’ infamous snap with the Infinity Gauntlet just as Fury was calling for help from Captain Marvel. Prior to Spider-Man: Far From Home, Jackson will be seen as Fury again in next year’s Captain Marvel alongside Brie Larson as the title heroine. The film is set in the early 1990s and will employ digital technology to de-age Jackson, similar to how Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer were de-aged in the Ant-Man films.

The film is currently shooting in London where Jake Gyllenhaal recently arrived to the set, where he will be portraying the Spider-Man villain Mysterio.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released on July 5th 2019 and features the return of Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Michael Keaton (The Vulture), Zendaya (Michelle), Jacob Batalon (Ned), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), with Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler) as Mysterio and J.B. Smoove (Uncle Drew) and Numan Acar (Homeland) has also been cast in an undisclosed role.
