Minions passes $500 million overseas; now at $750 million worldwide

July 28, 2015 by admin

For such a quiet weekend in terms of ticket sales, there were a lot of news stories coming out of the box office. Ant-Man passed $200 million, Terminator: Genisys passed $300 million and Pixels failed to get off the starting blocks. But there was another movie that hit an important milestone featuring those cheeky little yellow creatures.

Having earned an extra $66 million from its global markets, Minions has now passed the $500 million mark internationally. With a grand total of $761 million worldwide, Minions is the fourth biggest movie of 2015, but will unlikely topple Avengers: Age of Ultron, Furious 7 or Jurassic World which have passed the billion dollar mark.

Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters—from T. rex to Napoleon—the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression. But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he—alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob—ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow. The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award® winner Sandra Bullock), the world’s first-ever female super-villain. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind… from annihilation.

Minions is out now and features the voice talents of Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Michael Keaton (Birdman), Steve Coogan (Despicable Me 2), Alison Janney (The Way, Way Back), Katy Mixon (Eastbound & Down) and Jennifer Saunders (Shrek 2).
