Batman is a killer in Titans, says Robin actor Brenton Thwaites

October 6, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

As we gathered from the “fuck Batman” line in the first Titans trailer, there appears to have been a pretty big fall out between The Dark Knight and the Boy Wonder in the upcoming DC Universe series Titans, and now it seems we know the reason why.

Speaking to IGN at the New York Comic Con, Robin actor Brenton Thwaites has revealed that the producers of Titans have taken a leaf out of Tim Burton and Zack Snyder’s books when it comes to their incarnation of the Caped Crusader, with a Batman who is more than happy to go about his business using lethal force

“Batman is a killer and Robin wants to get away from that,” said Thwaites. “The idea is that he doesn’t want to become a killer himself. And although these guys that he’s fighting are bad and they deserve, you know, they deserve what he’s dishing out, it seems, he believes that when you kill someone you crossed the line and you become almost as bad as them, so it’s pretty clear in the series that he was with Batman, Batman crossed the line and he was teaching me to do the same thing, and he’s trying to break away from that.”

Given that Batman is usually depicted as having a strict no-kill policy, this decision probably isn’t going to sit right with too many fans of the Caped Crusader. What do you make of it? Let us know in the comments below…

From executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, TITANS is an all-new live-action drama series that follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others. TITANS is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever.

Titans sees Brenton Thwaites (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) leading the cast as Dick Grayson, alongside Teagan Croft (The Osiris Child) as Raven, Anna Diop (24: Legacy) as Starfire, Ryan Potter (Big Hero 6) as Beast Boy, Alan Ritchson (Smallville) as Hawk, Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights) as Dove and Lindsey Gort (Lucifer) as Detective Amy Rohrbach. It is set to air on the new DC streaming service on October 12th.
