A deceased Marvel character confirmed for Avengers 4

October 28, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Minor Avengers 4 spoilers follow…

It seems a pretty safe bet that we’re going to see a LOT of deceased characters making their return in Avengers 4 as the surviving members of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes undo the fallout from Thanos’ devastating victory in Avengers: Infinity War.

However, it’s not just the victims of The Snappening who’ll be back; we’ve known for a long while now that Tom Hiddleston has shot scenes as Loki, which looked to be a recreation of the climactic scenes of 2012’s The Avengers, and just this past week Frank Grillo confirmed that Brock Rumlow/Crossbones will be back for “flashbacks” (or time travel scenes?).

Well we can now a third name to that list, with executive producer Michael Grillo revealing during an Austin Film Festival panel that Tilda Swinton will be making her return as The Ancient One, although her role is likely very brief as the Doctor Strange star “was just a 1-day availability”.

If, as heavily rumoured, the plot of Avengers 4 does see our heroes travelling through time in order to acquire the Infinity Stonesbefore Thanos, then it makes sense that The Ancient One will feature given that she was the guardian of the Time Stone prior to her death in Doctor Strange. And with her wealth of knowledge about, well, pretty much everything, the character may well serve as a key source of information or knowledge to the Avengers as they embark on their quest to thwart the Mad Titan.
