Scrapped Boba Fett movie would have featured the bounty hunters from The Empire Strikes Back

October 31, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Over the weekend it was reported that Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy had confirmed that the long-planned Boba Fett Star Wars Anthology movie is “100% dead”, with the studio opting instead to focus its efforts on Jon Favreau’s live-action series The Mandalorian.

Talk of a Boba Fett movie has been circulating since 2013, with Josh Trank (Fantastic Four) originally on board to direct, and James Mangold (Logan) taking on the reins earlier this year.

Details on the project were kept tightly under wraps, but with the film now encased in carbonite, Entertainment Weekly has managed to uncover one titbit of information, with the site reporting that it would have saw Boba Fett joined by his fellow bounty hunters from Darth Vader’s Star Destroyer in Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back – Dengar, IG-88, Bossk, 4-LOM and Zuckuss.

Whether the film would have seen the bounty hunters competing against each other for the same target, or teaming up on some big score… well, those details are probably tucked securely away in the Lucasfilm vault next to a big pile of Star Wars: Underworld scripts, George Lucas’ original Sequel Trilogy treatments, the original ending to Rogue One, and Lord and Miller’s Solo cut.

There may however be one ray of hope for Boba Fett fans, as EW’s report does state that while the film is not in active development, the possibility of a resurrection remains.
