A fan tweeted Ryan Reynolds the Once Upon a Deadpool concept last year

November 22, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

The Merc with a Mouth returns to the big screen next month for Once Upon a Deadpool, a PG-13 recut of this year’s Deadpool 2, complete with a Princess Bride-inspired framing device featuring an adult Fred Savage who’s been kidnapped by the Merc with a Mouth.

Ryan Reynolds is said to have devised the concept and pitched to Fox earlier this year, but it has emerged today that Twitter user @MVBramley also happened to tweet Reynolds the exact same concept back in December 2017. See for yourself here…

Sooo… I tweeted the exact plot of the new 'Once Upon A Deadpool' PG version of #Deadpool2 at Ryan Reynolds almost a year ago and it somehow wound up in a movie without me knowing. #deadpool #ryanreynolds #xmen #movies #OnceUponADeadpool #fredsavage #marvelmovies #mcu pic.twitter.com/tTMHwh2A1a

So, that’s got to be a clear cut case of Reynolds ripping off the idea, right? Well, not quite, as it seems it may just be one really big coincidence, with MVBramley posting a follow-up tweet to that effect:

.@VancityReynolds and I had a brief talk and I believe he was as confused as I was. It seems like this may all just have been a big, insane coincidence and I'm happy to leave it at that. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie in December! #deadpool #onceuponadeadpool

To kick off the holiday season audiences of almost all ages will soon be able to enjoy the Merc with the Mouth’s reimagining of Deadpool 2 filtered through the prism of childlike innocence.

Deadpool 2 sees David Leitch (John Wick) directing a cast that includes returning stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), T.J. Miller (Weasel), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al) and Karan Soni (Dopinder) alongside new additions Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino, Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) as Cable, Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Bedlam, Lewis Tan (Iron Fist) as Shatterstar, Bill Skarsgard (It) as Zeitgeist, Rob Delaney (Catastrophe), Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) as Russell, Jack Kesy (The Strain) as Black Tom Cassidy and Shioli Kutsuna (The Outsider) as Yukio.
