Jason Momoa reveals details about his Batman audition for Zack Snyder

December 4, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, has revealed details about the time he auditioned for Batman.

Before he snagged the part of Aquaman, actor Jason Momoa actually auditioned for the role of Batman in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He didn’t get the part, of course, but it did get him the role of Aquaman.

Speaking to Jake’s Takes, Momoa described his audition for the part that he initially wanted: “Yeah I kind of visualized, because it was a generic kind of just general scene from the Christian Bale movie The Dark Knight and I just, it was a big casting call so I knew a lot of people were going to be doing it and I just felt like it was a booby trap and I just didn’t want to do it.

“So, we did it and I just pretended like Batman got killed in an alleyway and I picked it up and tried to play him like I was just down and out, poor, over it, just done wrong and he wasn’t afraid to punch even good people in the face. And just go like unforgivable about certain things but also like flawed, like the kind of person who would jump off a cliff and figure out on the way down what we’re going to do. So, they liked that and then I got called in about probably two to three weeks later and that’s when Zack laid it down and said ‘I want you to play Aquaman’, which was completely like ‘Excuse me?'”

It’s funny how these things work out, isn’t it? The role, of course, went to Ben Affleck and Momoa can soon be seen in his first solo outing as Aquaman. Do you think Momoa would have made a good Batman?

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman”, starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime — one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be … a king.”

Aquaman is directed by James Wan (The Conjuring) and stars Jason Momoa as the titular hero, reprising his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, along with Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Ludi Lin as Murk, Michael Beach as Jesse Kane, Djimon Hounsou as the Fisherman King, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, Otis Dhanji as a young Arthur Curry, Julie Andrews as Karathen and Graham McTavish in an as-yet-unrevealed role. It is set for release on December 14th in the UK and December 21st in North America.
