Tobey Maguire was considered for Peter Parker role in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

December 9, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse co-director Rodney Rothman has revealed that Tobey Maguire – the star of Sam Raimi’s blockbuster Spider-Man trilogy – was considered for the role of the mid-life Peter Parker in Sony’s acclaimed animated feature.

“There were many thoughts about where we could put Tobey Maguire and others,” said Rothman. “I think after this film, those thoughts might have a little more traction. But before this movie, and introducing the idea of the Spider-Verse to the audience, I think everybody was afraid that it would just really confuse people. But wow, it would have been fun.”

The role of Peter Parker ultimately went to Jake Johnson for Into the Spider-Verse, but with the multiverse concept now established and a sequel to the movie in the works, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if the follow-up featured cameo appearances from former Spideys such as Maguire or even Andrew Garfield
