Samuel L. Jackson disappointed that Nick Fury wasn’t in Captain America: Civil War

January 20, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

After sitting out much of Phase Three, Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury is set to return with a bang this year, featuring prominently in March’s Captain Marvel and July’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, as well as a potential Avengers: Endgame appearance.

Jackson’s role in Captain Marvel will mark his ninth Nick Fury appearance (tenth if you’re including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and during an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor has been reflecting on his time in the MCU, revealing that his only real regret is that Fury was absent from Captain America: Civil War.

“There’s lots of stuff you can do with him,” said Jackson. “But has he been used wisely? Yeah, except for things like Civil War. It’s like, if all the Avengers are fucking fighting each other, where is their guardian? Where’s that dude who comes in and goes, ‘Alright, everybody go to your room. I’ll be in there to talk to you in a minute.’ Either he’s the guy that brought them together and he’s the glue, or he’s not. I felt a little- I felt a way about that.”

Jackson also went on to reveal that he hasn’t read a script for this year’s hotly-anticipated Avengers sequel, stating: “Not Avengers: Endgame, no. I generally read the scripts I’m in. I don’t just go to my part [laughs].”

Do you agree that Nick Fury should have been part of Civil War? Let us know your thoughts in the comments or on Twitter @FlickeringMyth.
