Universal planning reboots for Jaws and Back to the Future

September 3, 2015 by admin

Let’s be honest, if you didn’t think you’d hear this news in your lifetime, you were kidding yourself.

In the wake of the news that Spielberg and Dreamworks were splitting from Disney to go and work with Universal, The Hollywood Reporter dropped in a very interesting note. It turns out that the studio has had plans (seemingly for some time) to reboot both Jaws and Back to the Future, and Spielberg is the key to these projects moving forward being that he directed the infamous shark movie and was executive producer on the beloved 80s time travel adventure.

“Sources say Spielberg commanded his rich director’s fee for Jurassic World — a percentage of profit worth tens of millions of dollars — from which he then paid helmer Colin Trevorrow. He also is key on potential reboots of other Universal franchises such as Jaws and Back to the Future.”

Recently Robert Zemeckis, who directed all three Back to the Future movies, said that a reboot would happen over his dead body. And if that failed, his estate would do their best to stop the remake happening.

Nothing official on this one yet, but this is hardly surprising news.
