It has been revealed by Captain Marvel‘s VFX technician that 80% of Goose the cat’s scenes were CGI.
Captain Marvel is currently enjoying a very successful run at the global box office and while fans are enjoying the sci-fi romp, it must be noted that one of the biggest surprise hits from the film stems from a loveable but very deadly cat named Goose.
No one was predicting the sensation caused by Goose but nevertheless, he has gone onto make quite the name for himself, terrifying everyone from Nick Fury to Kree warriors. But did you realise that 80% of Goose’s scenes were actually CGI?
VFX technician Chris Townsend has told the Huffington Post: “There are about over 100 shots of the cat in the film, 70 or 80 of them are CG.”
Townsend said the use of CGI was because it was often too difficult to get the actual cat to do what they needed: “There are also things that the cat didn’t want to do. Sometimes they’d be in the cockpit of the plane, and Ben Mendelsohn’s character would be sitting there in a big leather coat. The leather would creak and the cat would freak out on Sam Jackson’s lap. So there was an awful lot of replacement of the cat throughout the film.”
