If you’re angry about Batman killing you need to “wake the f*ck up”, says Zack Snyder

April 1, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Zack Snyder has certainly split opinions – and come in for some pretty heavy criticism – with regards to his vision for the DC Universe with Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, and his latest comments aren’t likely to sit too well with some of his critics.

Speaking at a Q&A following a recent screening of the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman, Snyder blasted those fans who were angry about Ben Affleck’s Batman breaking the comic book character’s “no kill” policy, with the filmmaker stating:

“Someone says to me: [Ben Affleck’s] Batman killed a guy. I’m like, ‘fuck, really? Wake the fuck up.’ Once you’ve lost your virginity to this fucking movie and then you come and say to me something about like ‘my superhero wouldn’t do that.’ I’m like ‘Are you serious?’ I’m like ‘Down the fucking road on that.’ It’s a cool point of view to be like ‘My heroes are still innocent. My heroes didn’t fucking lie to America. My heroes didn’t embezzle money from their corporations. My heroes didn’t commit any atrocities.’ That’s cool. But you’re living in a fucking dream world.”

What do you make of Snyder’s justification for his version of Batman killing? Can you see his point, or should he have been faithful to the traditional comic book interpretation? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below or tweet us @FlickeringMyth…

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice sees Zack Snyder directing a cast that includes returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), Harry Lennix (General Swanwick), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent) and Christina Wren (Carrie Farris) alongside Ben Affleck (Argo) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) as The Flash, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth, Holly Hunter (The Piano) as Senator Finch, Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) as Mercy Graves, Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead) as Martha Wayne, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) as Thomas Wayne, Scoot McNairy (Argo) as Wallace Keefe and Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire) as Anatoli Knyazev.
