Tom Hanks to play Elvis’ manager Colonel Tom Parker for director Baz Luhrmann

March 30, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Oscar-winner Tom Hanks looks set to follow his upcoming Mr. Rogers biopic A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood by portraying another real-life figure – that of Elvis Presley’s legendary manager Colonel Tom Parker.

Variety reports that Hanks is in talks to star in the as-yet-untitled film, which is being directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!) and will explore Elvis’ rise to superstardom.

According to the site, Luhrmann is looking to cast an unknown in the role of the King, and hopes that Hanks’ involvement with the film will convince Warner Bros. to give the green light to the project for production later this year.
