Rumour: Star Wars series The Mandalorian renewed for season 2

April 3, 2019 by Gary Collinson

We’re yet to see so much as a single frame of footage from The Mandalorian, but if a rumour from HN Entertainment is to be believed, Lucasfilm’s first ever live-action Star Wars series has already been renewed for a second season by Disney.

Taking place in the years following the fall of the Galactic Empire, The Mandalorian has been created by writer-producer Jon Favreau and will see Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) taking on the role of a lone gunfighter in the Outer Rim.

It’s expected that we’ll get our first look at The Mandalorian during this month’s Star Wars Celebration Chicago, while the show is slated to launch on Disney’s upcoming Disney+ streaming service, although a premiere date is yet to be confirmed.

In addition to The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm is also working on a Rogue One: A Star Wars Story spinoff following Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor, while unconfirmed rumours have claimed an Obi-Wan Kenobi show is also a possibility.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian is expected to premiere on Disney+ in late 2019 and sees Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) leading a cast that includes Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Nick Nolte (Afflication), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Omid Abtahi (American Gods) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man).
