Jon Favreau has tried to keep The Mandalorian’s scale similar to Star Wars: A New Hope

April 11, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Jon Favreau, the creator and writer behind upcoming Star Wars TV show The Mandalorian, has revealed that he has tried to keep the scale similar to A New Hope.

2019 is set to be a big year for Star Wars with Episode IX, The Clone Wars and much more all on the way. Another prospect that many fans are particularly excited about is the Disney+ show The Mandalorian.

Jon Favreau, the main man behind the series, has revealed to James Cameron in a conversation for the Directors Guild of America that he has attempted to capture the scale of the original trilogy, particularly A New Hope:

“Since I wrote most of [The Mandalorian], I wrote it to fit within our volume, and in trying to keep the scale of it like the first Star Wars film, which was a relatively low-budget affair, even though the effects were spectacular.”

Favreau has a reputation for pushing the boundaries of visual effects so fans shouldn’t expect this aspect to be lacking from The Mandalorian. It’s going to be exciting to see some actual footage from the show, hopefully at this weekend’s Star Wars Celebration.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian is expected to premiere on Disney+ in late 2019 and sees Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) leading a cast that includes Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Nick Nolte (Afflication), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Omid Abtahi (American Gods) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man).
