X-Men: Dark Phoenix director thinks the Weapon X story should be redone

May 30, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Simon Kinberg, the director of X-Men: Dark Phoenix, thinks that the Weapon X story should be redone next.

The future of the X-Men is unclear at the moment with Disney’s recent purchase of the property but with X-Men: Dark Phoenix retelling the classic Phoenix storyline for a second time on the big screen, is there another story that should be redone in the future?

Well, Simon Kinberg, director of Dark Phoenix, thinks that the Weapon X storyline is the one that should be redone, telling Screen Rant:

“I think the other storylines in the mainline X-Men movies were told well. I think, in terms of other X-Men films or the spin-offs, maybe the Weapon X story could be told again. Jim Mangold did such an extraordinary job with Logan and I loved it. I don’t know how you would do it to like go backward, I don’t think you could do it with Hugh, but I do think that there’s something in the Weapon X story that would be cool to see.”

With Marvel sure to introduce the X-Men into the MCU at some point, perhaps Kinberg will get his wish. It will be interesting to see how Marvel Studios handles such storylines.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix sees Simon Kinberg directing a cast that includes franchise veterans Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) alongside new additions Kota Eberhardt (The Persian Connection) as Selene, Andrew Stehlin (Hacksaw Ridge) as Red Lotus, and Jessica Chastain (Molly’s Game) and Lamar Johnson (Kings). It is set for release on June 5th 2019.
