Uncharted movie gets December 2020 release date

June 9, 2019 by Gary Collinson

It seems that the Uncharted movie is finally ready to make its escape from development hell, with Sony announcing that the long-planned feature adaptation of the hit Naughty Dog video game series will hit cinemas on December 18th 2020.

Spider-Man star Tom Holland will be taking on the lead role as Nathan Drake, with the movie exploring the character’s early days in a story that takes place years before the events of the video games.

Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) is set to direct the Uncharted movie and is the latest in a string of filmmakers who have been attached to the project over the years, including David O. Russell (The Fighter), Neil Burger (Divergent), Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) and Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum).

Along with the Uncharted announcement, Sony has also announced new dates for horror sequel Escape Room 2 (August 14th 2020), Kevin Hart-headlined Fatherhood (April 3rd 2020) and director Kay Cannon’s musical Cinderella (February 5th 2021).
