Having pulled in $111 million in China, Japan and Hong Kong over the weekend, Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Far From Home made its way into North American cinemas yesterday, setting a brand new record for the biggest Tuesday opening day at the box office.
As reported by EW, the Tom Holland-headlined superhero sequel pulled in $39.3 million, taking the record from the web-slinger’s earlier outing The Amazing Spider-Man, which opened with $35 million in 2012.
Far From Home has been tracking a $165 million domestic opening across the six-day Independence Day holiday weekend, but with $40 million already in the bank it may well go on to surpass that by the time the dust settles on Sunday.
