EGX 2015: Hands on with Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

October 2, 2015 by Kris Wall

Kris Wall reports from EGX 2015…

Uncharted needs absolutely no introduction. Naughty Dog delivered one of the greatest series in video games and Nathan Drake was taken into the hearts of gamers the world over with his matinee hero charm and shouts of ‘Oh crap’ every time something went wrong, which was quite often. From Drake’s Fortune to Among Thieves and on to Drake’s Deception, the adventures were consistently excellent, thrilling tales full of twists and turns, great characters, lots of humour and a hell of a lot of heart.

Bluepoint Games specialize in remastering games and their work on the Uncharted series is by far the most impressive I’ve witnessed to date, easily rivaling Naughty Dog’s own work on their remaster for The Last of Us. We were allowed to play a small section of Uncharted 2 set in Nepal with Drake immediately fleeing down backstreets while trying to take down a mercenary truck in pursuit.

Immediately the shift to a a solid 60fps is apparent, the game is just so smooth and it makes Uncharted feel completely different. Control over Drake is far more responsive while getting into firefights with the mercenaries benefits from much tighter aiming. The visuals also ‘pop’ a lot more, detail across both Drake and the environments is hugely improved and considering that Uncharted 2 and 3 already (and still do) look great, it’s a highly impressive technical achievement by Bluepoint Games.

The Nathan Drake Collection represents a fantastic opportunity for fans to revisit this beloved series before Uncharted 4 arrives next March and for people who may have missed the series entirely the first time around to experience 3 of the best action games ever made together in one stunning package for a great price.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is out exclusively for PlayStation 4 on October 7th
