UPDATE: George R.R. Martin says there will be a Game of Thrones movie

September 30, 2015 by Gary Collinson

UPDATE: It seems that The Daily Star has been making Martin’s comments up, as the author has now posted on his official LiveJournal debunking the report. Either that, or he’s spoke too soon…

Back in July, HBO president of programming Michael Lombardo revealed that the hugely-successful fantasy series Game of Thrones will run for at least eight seasons. Now A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin has addressed the possibility of the show making the jump to the big screen, claiming that a movie will indeed happen.

“There will be a movie but I will not be involved,” Martin tells the Daily Star (via Collider). “I have too much to do. That is something HBO and DB and David are dealing with. I have two more books to finish and I still have so much to do.”

This isn’t the first time that Martin has mentioned a possible Game of Thrones movie [see here], and given the popularity of the show you have to imagine that it’s very tempting for HBO, although so far both the network and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have remained noncommittal on the subject.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO in the spring.
