Alexandra Shipp replaces Eiza Gonzalez in Kung Fury sequel

July 28, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

Back in May it was confirmed that actor-director David Sandberg’s feature sequel to his cult 2015 short film Kung Fury is still moving ahead, with both Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Dark Phoenix) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator: Dark Fate) still on board to star alongside the returning Sandberg and David Hasselhoff.

There has however been one change to the cast first announced last year, with Deadline reporting that Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Dark Phoenix) has signed on to replace Eiza Gonzalez (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw). Shipp will portray Rey Porter, described as “a news anchor who will do anything to get the best story”.

Kung Fury 2 will take place in 1985 in Miami, a city under the protection of Kung Fury (Sandberg) and the Thundercops, a police force assembled to defeat history’s most feared villain Adolf Hitler, a.k.a. Kung Fuhrer.

Having disbanded the Thundercops following the death of one of its members, Kung Fury is forced to travel through space and time to save his friends, defend the prestigious Miami Kung Fu Academy, and defeat evil once and for all after a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Fuhrer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon.

Production on Kung Fury 2 is now underway in Bulgaria, with shooting also set to take place in Germany.
