Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is a chess match between the Jedi and the Sith according to Oscar Isaac

November 20, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Oscar Isaac, one of the stars of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, has said the film is part of a chess match between the Jedi and the Sith.

The age-old battle between the Jedi and the Sith has been a consistent presence across Star Wars canon and while no Sith and very few Jedi have been seen in the sequel trilogy so far, this fight is going to continue in Episode IX.

Oscar Isaac, who stars as Poe in the film, has told Total Film (via The Playlist), that the Sith and Jedi are at it once again: “What’s amazing about the story and the script is that you learn that both the Sith and the Jedi have been playing a very long game. From the get-go, there’s been this chess match. All these pieces have been played. And now we get to see who gets checkmate.”

It’s going to be fascinating to see how Episode IX ends and what state the galaxy is in after the Sith and the Jedi finish their epic tussle. It’s not long now before we find out!

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set for release on December 19th 2019 in the UK and December 20th 2019 in North America. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sees J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) directing a cast that includes Star Wars veterans Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Greg Grunberg (Snap Wexley), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) as well as new additions Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Richard E. Grant (Logan), Dominic Monaghan (Lost), and Keri Russell (The Americans).
