NBC chairman on the tone of Constantine pilot and chances of crossovers with other DC shows

January 20, 2014 by admin

While the news that Batman vs. Superman has been pushed back 10 months to May 2016 is sure to have disappointed DC Comics fans, there looks to ease the wait on the small screen, with The CW looking to build on Arrow with a Flash spin-off and Hourman series, Fox developing Gotham exploring the early years of Bruce Wayne, and Fox working on a pilot centred around Justice League Dark’s supernatural detective John Constantine.

Having placed a pilot order for Constantine last week, NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt offered a few words about the tone of the series during an interview with IGN at the Television Critics Association Press Tour: “I don’t know the DC comic very well, but there is dark, interesting stuff in it, but it’s also got some witty banter. It’s a fun tone, although the supernatural stuff is scary.”

When asked about the chances of Constantine crossing over with the various other DC shows in development, Greenblatt indicated that the focus right now is on getting the pilot right: “Cross-network is really hard. It’s hard enough to do it within your network. I think let us see how the pilot goes before we answer that question!”

Constantine has been developed by Daniel Cerone (The Mentalist) along with DC regular David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman).
